Welcome to 2020

It’s been an exciting start to the new decade with some great curriculum hooks that have reignited our learning engines and brought light and energy into a grey January. The hooks have done their job and the children have been immersed into their new projects.

Year 5/6 had a fabulous trip to the Harry Potter studios to kick off their topic ‘Harry Potter and the Art of Science’, Year 3/4 enjoyed a carousel of activities that included a real-life doctor visiting for their project ‘Doctor, Doctor!’ and lucky Year 1/2 had no other than yours truly to provide them with a photography workshop for the start of their ‘Winter Wonderland’ project. And, Year R have apparently found real-life dinosaur eggs! Today, Year 5/6 were the first to take part in their Trinity Day led by Southampton City Mission. Our other classes will also take part in the coming weeks. Thank you to Southampton City Mission for their time and guidance. The children had a great time and gained much from the day.

Mrs Johnson

Sadly, Mrs Johnson remains unwell. We were all hoping she would be well enough to return this week but this has not been the case. Mrs Johnson is hoping to return at the end of January but we will let you know more when we know. Our arrangements from before Christmas will remain the same, with Mr Brown continuing to teach in Mrs Johnson’s class and Mrs Coussen’s (our supply teacher) covering Mr Brown’s roles.

Updated website

We have updated our website to more closely mirror our school’s ethos. There are still areas to be added and we are always open to suggestions. Based on parental feedback in our Parent and Carers Group we now have an online calendar, which can be found in the navigation menu at the top of the page. There are additional links in the footer, for example, ‘ScoPay’ (our school payment system). You will also find your child’s latest curriculum information in the ’Curriculum Projects’ section.

However, I am most excited about are fantastic new video, which really does capture what Rownhams is all about. The video came about when one of our parents, Jo Poole (again in Parent and Carers Group), informed us that her daughter Ellie was studying a media degree. This led to Ellie and her fellow students , Sam and Adam, to creating the video that can now be found on our website. We are thrilled with the results and I am sure parents and carers will enjoy it equally. You will find our video ‘All About Us’ on the About Us page but you can check it out below! Huge thanks and congratulations go out to Ellie, Sam and Adam for a great video!

Parent and Carers Group

Our next Parent and Carers Group is on 21st January at 9.15am (9.00am for coffee). Anyone is welcome and if you would like to know more about the meeting and how to get involved, please contact our office.

Happy New Year to All!
