Geography
Geography helps children make sense of the world around them and their place within it.
Through the study of places, patterns and processes, children build a growing knowledge of the physical and human world and the connections between them. They learn to think like geographers: asking questions, using maps and fieldwork, gathering and analysing information, and communicating their ideas using increasingly precise geographical vocabulary. This supports our wider vision for children to understand and make a positive difference to Me. My Community. Our World.
Geography underpins a lifelong ‘conversation’ about the earth as the home of humankind.
Geographical Association
Big ideas in Geography
Our Geography curriculum is organised around two Big Ideas. Children revisit these throughout the school, building connections between places and developing an increasingly rich understanding of how our world works.
Investigate places
Children build a growing knowledge of places, from their local area to the wider world, including location, physical features and human features.
Investigate patterns
Children explore the patterns and processes that shape our world, including physical processes, human activity, diversity, change and the connections between places.
What children learn in Geography
Our Geography curriculum overview shows what children explore in Reception and across our two-year cycles. It also shows how learning builds towards the milestones at the end of Years 2, 4 and 6.
