Farm Fun, Art Adventures & Much More!

This week was packed with excitement across the school! Team R had a fantastic trip to Longdown Activity Farm, feeding animals and enjoying a bumpy tractor ride, creating wonderful memories. Team 1/2 channeled their inner artists, making imaginative clay flower sculptures inspired by Marc Quinn. Team 3/4 became master storytellers, crafting engaging dialogues with correct punctuation for their "Royal Rabbits" inspired writing. Meanwhile, Team 5/6 had a non-stop week with coding, cricket, transition days, and amazing "Darwin Rocks!" performances, showing incredible enthusiasm right to the very end!

Team R:

Year R had a fantastic day out at Longdown Activity Farm! The sun was shining, and we were excited to explore and learn all about farm animals. We bottle-fed hungry calves and goats, gently held fluffy guinea pigs, and even fed the ducks and more goats. One of the highlights was the bumpy tractor ride around the farm – we loved it! Despite the hot weather, everyone had so much fun discovering how to care for animals and seeing them up close. It was a brilliant hands-on learning experience, and we all came back with big smiles and great memories!

Team 1 / 2:

This week, our talented Year 1 and 2 children have been diving into the world of sculpture, taking inspiration from the renowned contemporary artist Marc Quinn. Known for his bold and thought-provoking work, Quinn’s floral sculptures captured the children’s imaginations and sparked their creativity.

After exploring some of his most famous flower pieces, the children had a go at making their own clay flowers. They carefully shaped petals, leaves, and stems, thinking about texture, form, and detail. It was wonderful to see how confidently they expressed their ideas through this tactile medium.

The classroom was full of excitement and concentration as little hands brought their artistic visions to life. We’re so proud of their beautiful creations — each one unique and full of character!

Team 3 / 4:

This week, Year 3/4 have been completing their final piece of writing based on the book The Royal Rabbits by Santa Montefiore and Simon Sebag Montefiore. The focus of their learning has been on writing direct speech and using the correct punctuation that accompanies it. The children used role-play to generate discussions between two characters, exploring how to foil a plot to embarrass the Queen of England. After role-playing their ideas, they recorded the conversation in speech bubbles before transforming their plan into a final written piece. This included accurately punctuated direct speech as well as vivid descriptions of the scene.

Team 5 / 6:

Things just don’t calm down in year 5/6 … We have had another full on week! We have had Hour of Code in computing, kick cricket in PE, Southampton City Mission transition day, St John’s church transition day, the amazing performances of Darwin Rocks! Along with continuing some writing and maths and Surrealism clothing design in art. It’s non-stop right ‘til the end. The children have been amazing with the amount of activities they have been doing: their attitudes and enthusiasm has been second to none.

They really do deserve a nice long rest.

Enjoy your Summer!

Year 6 Prefects - Living our School Values:

We have appreciated the commitment shown by our Year 6 prefects throughout the year.  They have embodied our School Values and were rewarded with a visit to Rownhams Manor Care Home to watch a movie in their wonderful cinema, including popcorn and a drink!

“This year, I have really enjoyed being a prefect.  My personal favourite duty is Worship as I really enjoy setting up the hall, bringing stools and getting the lighter from the office!  All the other duties were very fun though, like Lunch Trollies, Corridor Duty and Mailbags, just to name a few!  Being a prefect has also helped me grow as a person as I have learned many skills like learning to be more patient, responsible and trustworthy.

This year as a special treat, Rownhams Manor Care Home invited us to watch a movie in their theatre which was very kind of them!  We got popcorn and a drink and got to watch a movie which was really good.  Overall, I have really enjoyed being a prefect.” Holly Y

“Being a prefect has been a wonderful and fun experience because it gives you so much responsibility and I love doing my duties for the school.  It also means that sometimes, you have to give away your break and lunch, so you also sacrifice some things to be a prefect.

I loved going to the Old Folks Home and watching the movie because it was heartwarming to see all of those people enjoying themselves, oh, and the movie was great!  In general, it is an honour to be a prefect.”
