Hello Home-Schoolers!

I hope you have all enjoyed your first week of home-schooling your children! We have had a great week working with the children of our Critical Workers. The children have been a real credit to you.

Google Classroom
It’s great to see so many families engaging with Google Classroom, our new online platform for home learning.

We have just opened up a new classroom: Sunshine Class. Mrs Moroney and Mrs Stride have compiled a set of resources for children who attend our Sunshine group or access ELSA sessions. Of course, these resources are open to all children should they like to use them.

Sunshine Class Code: rwwfq2x

Great Free Resources
There are lots of great free resources out there at the moment. Audible are offering free children’s audio stories:

At Rownhams, we use the White Rose Maths scheme and resources to plan most of our maths lesson. So, this is a great starting point to continue learning and improving your maths in way that your children will be familiar with!

Next week look out for more resources including “Real PE at Home”.

Printing problems?
We have had a few parents asking if we can print out resources. Unfortunately, this is not going to be possible as we are working on skeleton staffing. However, many of the PDF documents you find online can be accessed without printing. We will continue to add resources that don’t need printing, such as quizzes.

Have you ‘turned in’ yet?
Thank you to all the families that are ‘Turning In’ their activities for the teachers. It’s really great to see what you have been up to and whilst this isn’t essential in all classes at the moment it’s the perfect way to keep in touch.

Get into the Classroom everyday and make it part of your daily routine…
If you haven’t yet been on Google Classroom yet then I urge to do so to keep your children’s learning going. Your children should log on and complete activities everyday and we hope to see all children accessing the resource by early next week.

If you do not have access to any electronic devices then please contact the school office at the first opportunity and will be able provide home-learning packs or another alternative.

Having trouble logging on or accessing resources?
One of the main problems families are encountering is that they are trying to use their personal Gmail accounts. This will not work. Your child will have received an email slip with username and password details. They all follow the same format [first initial, surname, year child started school @rownhams.org], for example:

jsmith18@rownhams.org

The default password for all accounts is: password

Note: The password can be changed in the ‘settings’ area (look for the gear icon in the top right).

Need a support line?
If you would like help with Google Classroom then please use ClassDojo as a way to communicate with your class teacher and I am sure they will be able to help. Where possible, try to avoid calling the office for this so we can prioritise calls and use staff where needed in school.

You can also find guidance on the official website here:
https://support.google.com/edu/classroom/?hl=en#topic=6020277

If you are still stuck you can email the school adminoffice@rownhams.hants.sch.uk and then it can be forwarded to someone who might know how (possibly me!).

Thank you
Finally, it goes without saying that I want to say a huge thank you to our NHS heroes and our other Critical Workers (including the team at Rownhams) who are out there doing their bit to save lives.

Wishing you a healthy and happy weekend in your homes.

Stay safe.

Tim Woodford, Headteacher
