Pedals, Play and Powerful Beliefs

This week, learning has been active, creative and thoughtful across the school. In Team R, children embraced the sunshine while developing their bike riding skills, building confidence, coordination and resilience as they practised balancing and turning safely. Team 1/2 explored the seven continents — Africa, Antarctica, Asia, Europe, North America, South America and Australia — using atlases, globes, playdough and imaginative small world play to deepen their geographical understanding and curiosity about the world. In RE, Team 3/4 learned about the Christian belief of salvation, creating a Salvation Web to explore themes of love, forgiveness and hope. Team 5/6 examined ‘The Suffering Servant’ from the Old Testament, comparing themes of sacrifice with the Easter story of Jesus.

Team R:

Year R have been making the most of the beautiful sunshine this week by practising their bike riding skills outdoors. With helmets fastened and big smiles on their faces, the children showed determination and growing confidence as they sped around the playground. Some focused on balancing and steering, while others practised turning safely. It was wonderful to see everyone encouraging their friends and celebrating each other’s progress. Riding bikes not only builds physical strength and coordination but also boosts resilience and independence. Well done, YR, for your fantastic effort and positive attitudes in the sunshine!

Team 1 / 2:

Exploring the Continents in Year 1/2

This term in Year 1/2, our children have been busy discovering the amazing world around them! We have been learning all about the seven continents : Africa, Antarctica, Asia, Europe, North America, South America and Australia — and beginning to understand where they are in the world.

We have explored the continents in a variety of fun, hands-on and playful ways to help bring our learning to life.

Using Atlases and Globes
The children have enjoyed looking at atlases and globes to spot the different continents and oceans. They practised finding where we live and comparing it to other places around the world. This has helped them to understand that our world is made up of many different countries and environments.

Creative Play with Playdough
Using playdough, the children created their own versions of the continents, shaping and moulding the land to match what they could see in atlases. This helped develop both their geographical understanding and their fine motor skills.

Small World Exploration
Through small world play, the children explored animals, landmarks and environments from different continents. From imagining icy landscapes in Antarctica to hot savannahs in Africa, they used their creativity and new knowledge to build their own miniature worlds.

Building Curiosity About the World
Throughout our topic, we have encouraged lots of discussion and questions. The children have been fascinated to learn about different climates, animals and ways of life across the continents. It has been wonderful to see their curiosity grow as they begin to understand how big and diverse our world really is.

We are so proud of the enthusiasm Team 1/2 have shown during this topic. If you would like to continue the learning at home, you might look at a map together, talk about countries you have visited, or even explore where different foods and animals come from.

We look forward to continuing our journey around the world as the term progresses!

Team 3 / 4:

In RE this week, Year 3/4 explored the Christian belief of salvation. We learned that Christians believe Jesus died on Good Friday as a sacrifice to save people from sin, showing love and forgiveness. To help us understand this important idea, we created a “Salvation Web,” linking key words such as forgiveness, love, sacrifice, hope and resurrection. We discussed how Christians believe this event gives them hope and encourages them to forgive others, show kindness and help those in need. It was a thoughtful lesson that helped us understand how beliefs can influence the way people live their lives.

Team 5 / 6:

In RE this week we have looked at the Old Testament story of ‘The Suffering Servant’. We looked at things that happened to the servant and how he was treated as well as how he lived and reacted. A comparison was then made between his sacrifice and the sacrifice of Jesus during Easter.
