Rownhams Returns

This week we reopened our school to our Year R, Year 1 and Year 6 children. It is fair to say that our whole community was anxious about the restart but I am happy to report that the week has been successful - the feedback has been very positive and the children have been absolutely brilliant! Thank you to the whole community for responding so well to our plans and making our school a safe and welcoming place to be.

What's been happening in school this week?

We have had all sorts of fun activities this week, including porridge making in Year 1 and bug hunting in Year R. Here’s just a small selection of photos from their adventures.

Mr Woodford's Creative Challenge

These children (below) have completed my Creative Challenge on the theme of ‘Planet Earth’. There was a huge range of different approaches to the challenges but all have shared the beauty of our plant and the importance of looking after it so that we can enjoy it forever! I have not been able to include all of the shared learning, but thank you to everyone who took time and effort to think about our planet and to create something special – including a short drama from Gracie and Livia in their living room and Adham and Ameerah uploading their messages via video!

I chose to use Emily’s planet painting for my blog’s feature image today as I thought this showed the beauty of our planet against the backdrop of wide open space! Thank you Emily!

Thinking of you at home

Whilst we have had a successful week here in school we are still thinking about those of you at home. Our teachers and support staff have been doing their absolute best to maintain some level of home learning for you.

Mrs Tompkins, Miss Adams and Mrs Noel have been supporting your children’s class teachers by adding to the Google Classrooms so look out for new resources being uploaded.

If you ever need any support or help with home learning, including how to use Google Classroom, contact your class teacher via ClassDojo or call the office if you are really stuck!

Sorry, there was no online ‘Hot Chocolate Friday’ today (Friday 5th June) but I hope to resume this next week so look out for your invite in the Google Classrooms!

So, when will schools reopen to all pupils?

Unfortunately, we do not know anymore than you do at this time. As with any of the Coronavirus announcements we hear it on the news the same time that you do!  The Department for Education states:

We hope that all primary school children can come back to school before the summer holidays, for a month if feasible, although this will be kept under review. Reducing the risks for children and staff is our utmost priority.

How this would look in practice is a bit of mystery to us all at the moment but be assured that whatever the government decides we will be ready to put a plan in place to welcome your children back safely.

Job Vacancy

Due to the departure of our Site Manager, Trevor Jenkins, we are now looking for a replacement. We are looking for someone who will come and show love, care and attention to our school building and grounds so we can continue to develop our school into an even more welcoming, happy and safe place to come each day.

We would like to thank Trevor for his time working with the school and we wish him every happiness in his new ventures.
