Responsibility at Harvest Time

Just before half term we celebrated our value of Responsibility with a special day. We learned about how we can make a difference in our community and about ‘courageous advocates’ who are making a difference to our world. For example, we looked at how David Attenborough is using his influence to save our world from a climate crisis. We also held a wonderful harvest celebration in our first whole school visit to the church for some time. Well done to Year 2 for leading our worship time at the church, alongside Reverend Graeme and Ewan. Thank you to parents and carers for your donations, which have been collected by Southampton City Mission for their food bank.

Year 3/4 have continued to be inspired by the artist LS Lowry, Year 5/6 have been mapping in geography, coding in computing and studying a significant architect called Zaha Hadid. Year R have been on autumn adventures!

Perfect pyramids

Year 5/6 have been delving into the history of pyramids and obelisks as part of the history topic. They then created a ‘tetrahedral kite’ as part of their learning on frame structures in design technology, which they have used to present their new found knowledge! Year R have been very active this week – thank you to Mr Alford for his help! Year 1/2 have been getting outside and Year 3/4 have been reading a story with two sides. I wonder that could mean?

Inclusion Day was a blast! The children (and adults!) had so much fun getting stuck into a variety of active and engaging activities. Everyone had a go at something, which included archery, New Age Kurling, water game, Nerf guns – and much more. It was a great day to show off our Learning Buttons – especially the Team Builder and Go-Getter buttons. The day made for the perfect opportunity to work together and get to know their new classes. Thank you to Personal Best Education, and the students from Mountbatten for leading the day and making it so successful. This week, in the blog, you can see all the photos from the day, plus more, including the science behind the story of Three Little Pigs(!), measuring the dark and perfect pop art!

Salt, Sea Dogs and Green Fingers

This week in our blog read about how our school grounds are being turned into a gardening, growing and nature haven for our children to explore and learn in. With help from staff, parent volunteers, Nursling Men’s Shed, S. Wood Timber Merchants and many other local residents we are building something that children for many years to come will get to enjoy. Also read about Year 5/6’s salty experiments, Year 3/4’s first look at Vikings, Year 1/2’s trip to Lordshill’s library and Year R’s sea dog ship-building fun!
