An expedition to the South Pole

Our Year 1/2 children have been on an expedition to the South and whilst they were there they learned all about a famous Royal Navy Officer called Captain Robert Falcon Scott! Y3/4 have taken a step further to a galaxy far, far away, Year 5/6 have been building shelters and Year R have been celebrating the Lunar New Year and reading one of my favourite stories ‘The Tiger Who Came To Tea’.

Salt, Sea Dogs and Green Fingers

This week in our blog read about how our school grounds are being turned into a gardening, growing and nature haven for our children to explore and learn in. With help from staff, parent volunteers, Nursling Men’s Shed, S. Wood Timber Merchants and many other local residents we are building something that children for many years to come will get to enjoy. Separating in Science

Year 5/6 have been very busy… learning more about biomes in geography, separating in science, dancing with Miss Batchelor – and taking tests! Their minds and bodies will definitely need a rest after all of that! Around the school, Year 1/2 have produced fantastic front covers and whizzy writing for their brilliant stories, Year 3/4 have been learning all about magnets and Year R have been digging for pirate treasure!

Winter is fun!

It has definitely been winter this week in school! To accompany the frosty mornings we have been working on the Winter’s Child and Snow Bears in Year R and Year 1/2. The themes have been distinctly science based in key stage 2 where the children have been learning all about forces and biomes!

Gardener’s Delight

Our Year 1/2 children had a wonderful time at Beaulieu Motor Museum, including a ride on a double decker bus. The children were a credit to the school and thank you so much to all the parents and carers that were able to help out. Meanwhile, our Year 5/6 children have been debating whether the Battle of Britain was a turning point, Year 3/4 have been experimenting with bones and Year R have visited the Moon! Our Eco-Committee have also been busy tidying up our Spiritual Garden. Thank you to our green-fingered parent volunteers, too!

Computer whizzes!

Our Year 3/4 children have become computer programmers! They have been writing algorithms to control their own smart home lighting system. “Alexa, can you turn the lights on please?”. Meanwhile, Year 1/2 have been exercising their maths brains with Mathletics, Year R have been studying autumn and Year 5/6 have been learning about the concept of creation in their RE lessons.
