The School Trip Returns

Our school trips have restarted and it feels great to finally be able to getting back out and experiencing the wonders of our local area.

Year 3/4 have had a fabulous trip to Minstead and Year 1/2 had fun at Hilliers. Also, in school, Year R have been paleontologists and Year 5/6 have been revving engines.

Year R - Stomp, Chomp, Big Roars! Here Come the Dinosaurs!

This week we have continued to learn all about dinosaurs. We have made a dinosaur park outside and been on walks around our school grounds with binoculars. We have found lots of evidence that our dino friends have been at Rownhams whilst we have been at home!

We have been exploring fossils and have been paleontologists in our museum as well as enjoying our new sand pit. Dinosaurs were frozen in our classroom this week and we have been putting our problem solver skills to the test, identifying ways in which we could rescue them. Our teachers have been really proud of our whizzy writing this week as we recorded our observations of change in the investigation station.

Year 1/2 - Hooray for Hilliers

Wow what a fantastic week! Year One and Two went on a trip to Sir Harold Hillier Gardens!

We did pond dipping, made animal homes, looked for smelly herbs and learned lots and lots about all sorts of wildlife! We also managed to keep sun safe on such a hot day. As always we are so thankful for those parents who gave up their precious time to help out and make this trip a really special experience.

Year 3/4 - Trip to Minstead

Over three separate days, Year 3/4 all visited Minstead for a rather long (but very fun) day of forest walks, river dips and singing around the fire. It all started with a little jaunt through the woodland, heathland and boglands of Minstead, where we made journey sticks, looked for signs of wild animals and learnt about the New Forest and the creatures that inhabit it. After a couple of pit stops to refuel and rehydrate, we were back on the main site to start our afternoons activities. These consisted of finding some prehistoric looking water-life in the river and following clues to complete an orienteering challenge around the whole of the site. This was all spaced around a delicious pizza dinner (with handpicked salad straight from Minstead’s grounds), cookie breaks and water stops. All in all, a fantastic – if slightly hot – day!

Year 5/6 - Rev your engines!

For the start of our 2 week mini project 5-6 are looking at all things speedy.  Miss Long and Archie very kindly brought in their motorbikes so the children could have a chance to get up and close looking for the similarities and differences between the bikes: wheel tread, forces, power, protective equipment, gears to name a few. The children then had a go at designing their own helmet in the style of Italian motorcycle champion Valentino Rossi. We had such a fab morning!
