Team R:
A Wonderful Week in Team R
What a fantastic week it’s been for Team R! The children have thrown themselves into a whole range of new experiences, each one bringing excitement, curiosity and plenty of smiles.
Our adventures began with Team R becoming brilliant little bakers. They carefully measured their own dough to bake bread from scratch. The smell drifting out of the classroom was amazing, and the pride on their faces as they held their warm, freshly baked creations was even better.
Messy play took a wonderfully foamy twist this week as we explored bubbles, textures and shapes. Hands, sleeves and even a few noses ended up covered in foam, but the joy of discovery was worth every moment. The room was filled with laughter as the children experimented, squished, squeezed and giggled their way through the activity.
To round off the week, scooter boards quickly became a class favourite. The children loved zooming around, testing out their balance and coordination while cheering each other on. It was brilliant to see their confidence grow with every turn and glide.
It truly has been a week full of exploration, creativity and fun. Well done, Team R!
Team 1 / 2:
This week, the children in Team 1/2 have been diving into an exciting new story — Mr Tiger Goes Wild by Peter Brown! The book has captured everyone’s imagination with its bold illustrations and brilliant message about being yourself.
As we explore the story together, the children have been busy thinking of interesting adjectives to describe Mr Tiger. They’ve talked about what he looks like; his stripy fur, bright eyes, and confident stance, as well as his wild and adventurous personality.
Through group discussions and creative activities, such as drama, the children have been expanding their vocabulary, using words like curious, brave, energetic, and mischievous to describe Mr Tiger. These rich describing words will help them as they begin to plan and write their own character descriptions of this wild and wonderful character.
It’s been wonderful to see their enthusiasm and imagination come alive! We can’t wait to read their fantastic writing about Mr Tiger and see how they bring his adventurous spirit to life on the page.
Team 3 / 4:
Team 3/4 has been exploring the fascinating work of the British artist L.S. Lowry. Known for his distinctive paintings of industrial life in northern England, Lowry captured scenes of everyday people — factory workers, bustling streets, and smoky skylines — with a unique charm that continues to inspire artists today.
The children began by learning about Lowry’s life and inspirations, discovering how he found beauty in the ordinary and told stories through simple shapes and muted colours. We looked closely at his use of a limited colour palette, often made up of greys, browns, and blues, which helped create the distinctive mood of his paintings.
After studying some of his most famous works, the class had the chance to become artists themselves. Using charcoal, they experimented with tone, shading, and perspective to create their own Lowry-inspired scenes.
Team 5 / 6:
Year 5/6 Learn Life-Saving Skills with Heartstart
Over the past few weeks, Year 5/6 have enjoyed a series of fantastic first aid workshops led by Adrian, Janice and the team at Heartstart Meon Valley in Bishop’s Waltham.
In the first session, pupils learned two key acronyms:
DRS – Danger, Response, Shout
ABCD – Airways, Breathing, CPR / Call 999, Defibrillator
They practised how to respond in an emergency, check for breathing, make a 999 call (even from a locked phone), and potentially save a life. Adrian and Janice also introduced the What3Words app, which helps emergency services locate you more precisely. Families are encouraged to find and record their home’s What3Words address somewhere visible in case of emergency. Working in pairs, children then practised the recovery position. Session 2 focused on choking: pupils learned to recognise when someone is choking and how to help with back blows or abdominal thrusts. Two volunteers demonstrated using a special choking vest, showing how to carry out the techniques safely.
In the final session, children tackled CPR and defibrillator use. We practised chest compressions, calling for help, and using an AED, seeing how quick action and teamwork can save lives.
We’re so grateful to Heartstart for these practical, hands-on sessions. The children have gained vital first aid skills — and the confidence to use them. Families can find recap videos on YouTube (search Heartstart Meon Valley) to keep skills fresh.
A huge well done to Year 5/6 — true lifesavers in the making!
