Team R: Pitch Perfect
Children in Team Oak and Team Ash have been having music lessons on a Friday morning with Miss Pascall! They have learned all about the musical term ‘pitch’ and what it means, and, as well as using high voices and low voices, they are beginning to show how pitch changes using their hands. Using the glockenspiels was particularly exciting! Here we are taking Incy Wincy Spider for a walk up and down the glockenspiels, and using our hands to show whether the pitch of the notes is high or low.
Team 1 / 2: Strong Structures
Team 1/2 had an exciting time investigating what makes a strong structure in preparation for building their own chairs! Using paper, DT straws, masking tape, Blu Tack, and paper, they experimented with different shapes and designs. They discovered that triangles and cylinders add strength, and wider bases make structures more stable. Working in teams, they tested their ideas by constructing mini models, learning through trial and error and a lot of resilience! Their creativity, problem-solving and teamwork skills shone as they explored ways to make their designs sturdy. Now, they’re ready to take on the challenge of building their very own chairs!
Team 3 / 4: Drumming Concert
This week, Team Aspen and Rowan performed a wonderful drumming concert for their families. They played large djembe drums as well as handheld percussion instruments. Each team performed a range of African and European songs on each instrument and even sang along. Mrs Nice from Hampshire Music Service conducted the percussion orchestra, having taught them the songs throughout the term. Timing and concentration were key for everyone to play together as a group. We loved listening to their final performance – well done Team 3/4!
Team 5 / 6: Maths Workshop
Team 5/6 recently had the opportunity to step into the role of teachers, guiding their adults through important arithmetic skills, including multiplying fractions and finding percentages of amounts. It was an inspiring session that showcased just how knowledgeable and confident the children are in their learning!
They demonstrated a clear understanding of mathematical concepts and explained each step with precision and patience. They used effective strategies to help their adult learners grasp the methods, breaking down calculations and providing helpful examples along the way. Their ability to communicate their understanding and support others was truly impressive!
'There's No Place Like Home' - Musical Theatre Club performance
On Saturday, our Musical Theatre Group delighted audiences of nearly 350 people, over two performances, of ‘There’s No Place Like Home’. We could not be prouder of our cast who, in the words of Mr Warner who was in the evening performance audience, all found their Brains, Hearts and Courage to learn all of the lines, songs, dances and staging, and then perform them with such commitment, confidence and enthusiasm. Well done to every single one of them!
In addition to this amazing afternoon and evening, on Wednesday, most of the cast were able to visit Rownhams Manor Care Home, where they entertained residents with a selection of songs from the show. Residents clearly enjoyed this, and it was lovely to see some of them swaying with the music and singing along to some of the numbers. All the children have certainly shown clearly our school values of Love, Joy and Responsibility during this past week.
