Fantastic Forces

This week on the blog: Sports Day practice, an 'egg'-celent visit, engaging reading, and rollercoasters!

This week on the blog, we are sharing some exciting visits which took place before the Easter break. In Team 5/6, the children visited Paultons Park to help them learn more about the forces involved in rollercoasters, and had a chance to experience them themselves! Meanwhile, our Year 2 children had a lovely visit to Rownhams Manor Care home, where they celebrated Easter with some of the residents by taking part in an Easter Egg hunt. Keep reading to learn more, and discover what learning has been taking place elsewhere in the school...

Team R: Getting ready for Sports Day!

This week in Year R, the children have been busy learning fun Sports Day activities with Coach Maltby! They’ve been practicing their running skills, jumping far in the long jump, and learning how to take turns and cheer for their friends. Coach Maltby has made each session exciting and full of energy, helping the children build confidence and coordination. It’s been wonderful to see their big smiles and determination! Everyone is working hard and getting ready for our exciting Summer Sports Day—adults, get ready to cheer them on as they show off their amazing new skills!

Team 1 / 2: An Egg-celent Visit

Before the holidays, our Year 2 children enjoyed their very first visit to Rownhams Manor, the new residential home in Rownhams. What an adventure it was! The Year 2 children had been specially invited to join the residents for an Easter Egg hunt in the beautiful grounds of the residential home.

With eager eyes and big smiles on their faces, the children hunted high and low to discover hidden eggs tucked behind trees and under bushes. There was even a surprise visit from the Easter Bunny, who brought some extra treats for everyone!

The visit was a wonderful way to engage with our wider Rownhams community, celebrate the season while helping the children build special memories with their friends.

Thank you to all the Rownhams Manor staff and residents and our parent volunteers who made it such a magical experience.

Team 3 / 4: Kensuke's Kingdom

This week, Team 3/4 have continued their journey around the world by reading the acclaimed book Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo.

The children have been following the main character, Michael, as he transitions from living in an industrial town in the north of England to settling in Hampshire while preparing for his family’s planned sailing trip around the world. They read about his emotional farewells to friends and family as he sailed up the Solent and out into the vast ocean.

Throughout the story, the children have explored the perils Michael faced and the adventures he encountered. To deepen their understanding, they have been reading in pairs, independently, and as a class—improving their fluency while also engaging with questions that develop key comprehension skills such as retrieval, sequencing, prediction, and inference. These are all essential skills that benefit from regular practice!

Team 5 / 6: Fantastic Forces

Before the Easter break, Team 5/6 went on a trip to the amazing Paultons Park as part of our forces unit of work. We completed a workshop in which we learnt about the forces needed to start and stop the rides as well as getting to complete a full loop rollercoaster challenge. We also got to try out a few of the rides…
