Explorers, Creators, and Storytellers!

From porridge-making to map-reading, our pupils have had a wonderfully busy week of hands-on learning! Team R got “just right” with Goldilocks as they made and tasted their own porridge, experimenting with honey, jam, and banana toppings. Team 1/2 embraced the autumn air on a nature walk, creating art from leaves and twigs while investigating seasonal changes. Team 3/4 wrapped up their journey through The Tunnel with creative mind maps exploring bravery and imagination, and Team 5/6 became expert geographers, mastering grid references and digital maps. A brilliant week of curiosity, creativity, and discovery all around!

Team R:

Just Like Goldilocks!

Our Year R children had a beary exciting time making and tasting porridge – just like Goldilocks! After reading the classic tale, we put on our aprons and made our own warm, creamy porridge. Then came the best part – choosing toppings! The children explored different flavours, trying jam, honey, and banana. Some said the jam was “just right”, while others loved the sweet honey or soft banana. There were lots of happy faces (and sticky fingers!) as they tasted and talked about their favourites. A delicious, hands-on way to bring a story to life!

Team 1 / 2:

Exploring Autumn: A Nature Walk with Team 1/2

This week, our Year 1/2 children had the chance to explore the beauty of the changing season with a delightful autumn nature walk. The crisp air and vibrant leaves provided the perfect backdrop for observing how autumn is transforming our surroundings.

Year 2’s Autumn Investigations
During their walk, the Year 2 children focused on noticing the subtle signs of autumn all around them. Back in the classroom, they applied their observations by thinking deeply about what animals, trees and humans do in Autumn with some comical answers ranging from having bonfires to staying inside more!

Year 1’s Creative Autumn Trees
Year 1 took a more hands-on approach, using natural materials collected during their walk to create beautiful representations of evergreen and deciduous trees in autumn. Twigs, leaves, and other found items became a fantastic way for the children to explore the textures, shapes, and colors of the season while bringing their observations to life through art.

As part of their learning, Team 1/2 also began a longitudinal study to explore their enquiry question: “When is the best time to visit the oak tree in our outside area?” Over the year they will make regular observations to track the changes in the tree, helping them understand the rhythm of the seasons in a hands-on, investigative way.

Both year groups had a wonderful time combining outdoor exploration with learning and creativity, developing a deeper understanding of the seasonal changes that autumn brings.

We are so proud of our young explorers for engaging with nature so thoughtfully and creatively!

Team 3 / 4:

As Team 3/4 came to the end of their reading learning journey for The Tunnel by Anthony Browne, the children brought together all their ideas and discoveries in detailed Mind Maps. Throughout the unit, they explored the story’s settings, characters, and plot, while uncovering deeper themes of bravery, sibling relationships, and imagination.

Team 5 / 6:

As part of their geography unit, Years 5/6 have been studying maps. They have learned about the uses of modern digital maps, along with their advantages and disadvantages. The children explored large‑scale maps (including how to fold them) of the local area, from Eastleigh to Rownhams, as well as more focused VectorMaps. Given a list of locations, the children had to find either the four‑figure or six‑figure grid reference for each one. The class was very excited to explore their local area on a map.

Macmillan Coffee Afternoon

Thank You for Supporting Our Macmillan Coffee Afternoon!

A huge thank you to all the parents, carers, and friends who joined us for our Macmillan Coffee Afternoon this week. It was wonderful to share a cuppa, enjoy some delicious cakes, and raise money for such an important cause. Every penny makes a real difference to families affected by cancer.

We’ve included a few photos from the afternoon — thank you again for making it a success!
