Happy Christmas Team Rownhams

We have had a thoroughly enjoyable end to our year with allsorts of celebrations from end of term music concerts to our Christingle and Carols by Candlelight services at the church. Thank you to all of our parents and carers for your kindness and support over this last year. From all the staff at Team Rownhams we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Year R - A Whole Term in School!

As we wrap up the final blog of our first term at school, it’s a moment of reflection on the incredible journey we’ve undertaken. The growth is evident, with a newfound confidence radiating among us. Our venture into the world of reading has commenced, and we’ve delved into tricky concepts in both maths and science.

This week, our focus naturally shifted to the festive spirit of Christmas. The joy of creating Christingles was palpable, and the hall echoed with laughter as we illuminated them. Amidst the warm glow, we sang Christmas carols, basking in the ambiance created by the flickering candles. Our visit to the church for the whole school Christingle service was a memorable experience, and heartfelt thanks go out to all the helpers who accompanied us. Singing alongside the older children in the church added a sense of unity and celebration.

Wednesday brought another delightful occasion, as many of our adults joined us to for our Winter Warmer event. Thank you all for coming to help us celebrate Christmas. And as if the excitement wasn’t already soaring, we revelled in our YR Christmas party, appreciating the additional treats that made it even more enjoyable.

As we bid adieu to this term, we believe we’ve earned a well-deserved rest. It’s a time for rejuvenation, ensuring that we return after Christmas ready for more wonderful moments of learning and play with our friends. The journey continues, and we eagerly anticipate the adventures that the next term will bring.

Year 1/2 - A Miracle in Town

Year 1/2’s recent nativity play, ‘A Miracle in Town,’ was a festive delight. The young children, dressed in incredible costumes, brought Bethlehem to life with infectious enthusiasm. The amazing dances and beautiful singing voices added magic and the acting was phenomenal.  As the final curtain fell, thunderous applause echoed, leaving a lasting reminder of  the true meaning of Christmas in the hearts of all who attended.

Year 3/4 - Geography, Atlas Skills and Bad Jokes!

Mountains aren’t just funny. They’re hill areas.

We haven’t been studying bad geography jokes, but using great atlas skills! After learning key vocabulary to describe features of a mountain range, we set about finding European mountain ranges and the tallest peaks. We had lots of discussion about altitude, and how to use a coloured key in an atlas to locate areas high above sea level, such as The Alps, The Pyrenees and The Apennines.

Year 5/6 - Stagecoach Workshop

Year 5/6 were lucky enough to be visited by Stagecoach for an afternoon of song and dance. After some warm up rounds of voice coaching the children went straight on to learning a dance to a song most had never heard before. The atmosphere was fantastic and the children really stepped up to the challenge, especially with the pace of the music. The coach did a superb job of teaching two separate dance parts to each class in such a short amount of time. It was wonderful to watch!

Christingle Service

Our Christingle Service at St John’s Church was a radiant celebration, illuminating the festive spirit. Special thanks to Rev’d Graeme and Ewan for their inspiring talk, guiding us through the significance of Christingle. Gratitude extends to Mrs. Phelps for orchestrating the event seamlessly. The flickering candles and the thoughtful words which were shared created a truly magical atmosphere, reminding us all of the joy and unity that define the Christmas season in Rownhams.

Carols Around the Tree

Rownhams recently transformed into a winter wonderland as families gathered for an enchanting afternoon of carols around the tree. The air resonated with the sweet melodies of the school choir, setting the perfect backdrop for the festivities. Amidst the twinkling lights, everyone savoured steaming cups of hot chocolate and indulged in delightful gingerbread men, generously provided by the community.

The choir’s captivating performances filled the crisp wintery air with the spirit of Christmas, uniting us all in song. To add to the excitement, a lively raffle drew cheers as lucky winners walked away with fantastic prizes. Thank you to our PTA for organising this brilliant event.

Spreading Joy at Winchester Market

In a wonderful display of festive spirit, Rownhams’ School Choirs graced the Winchester Christmas Market with enchanting carols. The young voices resonated through the market, creating a magical atmosphere that delighted both locals and visitors alike. The performance not only showcased the talent of the school’s choirs but also added a touch of seasonal magic to the bustling holiday market, leaving everyone with a warm and joyful Christmas memory. Thank you to Mrs Phelps and Miss Pascall for arranging this brilliant experience.
