Butser Ancient Farm

In the crisp, wintry air, our enthusiastic Year 3/4 students embarked on a memorable field trip to Butser Farm, where they were greeted by the charm of the countryside and the promise of exciting activities. Clad in cosy jackets and scarves, the children eagerly engaged in archaeological digging for artefacts, channelling their inner archaeologists as they carefully unearthed remnants of the past. Excitement filled the air as they discovered ancient treasures buried beneath the cold, damp earth, fostering a sense of connection to history

Year R - Stage Coach Workshop

This week we have been reading the story of ‘Jesus’s Christmas Party’ to help us learn about the Christian Nativity Story. We were very excited on Monday as we had a visitor from Stage Coach who helped us to act out the story of Stick Man with action, song and speech. In Maths we have been exploring squares and rectangles and thinking about how they are the same and how they are different to each other. We have also been learning about day and night and how some things have to be done in a certain order. In Science we had the opportunity to feel and investigate with different sweets.  We came up with amazing vocabulary such as stretchy, sticky, hard, harder, squishy and we described what we noticed when we dropped them.  We then put the sweets in water. We have been practising for our Winter Warmer with our special adults next week and we enjoyed watching the Yr 1/2 Nativity.

Year 1/2 - Lily and the Snowman

This term Year 1/2 have been watching an exciting adventure called Lily and the Snowman! They have created some wonderful pieces of writing on Lily and this week we went to the next level…

We made the most delicious melted snowman biscuits! The children talked step by step through the process of making these scrumptious snacks so that they could write a set of instructions ready for christmas! Can you follow our recipes and bake some tasty snowman treats?

Year 3/4 - Trip to Butser Ancient Farm

In the crisp, wintry air, the enthusiastic Year 3/4 students embarked on a memorable field trip to Butser Farm, where they were greeted by the charm of the countryside and the promise of exciting activities. Clad in cosy jackets and scarves, the children eagerly engaged in archaeological digging for artefacts, channelling their inner archaeologists as they carefully unearthed remnants of the past. Excitement filled the air as they discovered ancient treasures buried beneath the cold, damp earth, fostering a sense of connection to history.

The adventure continued as the children immersed themselves in creative pursuits, trying their hand at jewellery making and chalk carving. Fingers nimble with cold but hearts warmed by joy, they crafted unique pieces to take home as mementos of their day at Butser Farm. To complete the immersive experience, the students gathered for a well-deserved lunch in a large roundhouse warmed by a crackling fire. The flickering flames and the rustic ambiance added a cosy touch to their meal, creating a memorable setting for sharing stories and laughter. With renewed energy, the children then ventured into wattle fence building, weaving thin branches together to create traditional structures. Laughter and teamwork echoed across the farm as they constructed their fences, leaving the children with not only newfound knowledge but also lasting memories of a day filled with fun, exploration, and hands-on learning.  Thanks to all the adults who came along to support the children.

Year 5/6 - Keeping the readers on the edge of their seats!

The children have produced some incredible writing as part of their work on the poem The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes. Writing in the role as Bess, the inn-keeper’s daughter, they wrote a recount describing her waiting for the Highwayman to return. They worked hard to include suspense, to use synonyms to avoid repetition and to describe character and setting. They tried to leave their readers on the edge of their seats at the end of these tense recounts!

Meet Stitch!

Rownhams now has a regular visit from our very own therapy dog, Stitch. Stitch and his owner Amy are one of many who volunteer across the country visiting schools, libraries, nursing homes and many more places. On today’s visit Isla read beautifully to Stitch and Stitch enjoyed a good belly rub.
