Team R:
This week in Year R, we have introduced our new early morning tasks! Each morning, the children take part in a range of exciting activities designed to develop their fine motor skills and strengthen the muscles in their fingers and hands. The tasks involve lots of intricate work, encouraging careful movements, concentration and perseverance. We have also been exploring activities at different heights, helping to develop strength, control and coordination in different ways. The children have adapted to this new morning routine fantastically and are already showing great independence when coming into the classroom. We are so proud of them all!
Team 1 / 2:
Living Out Our School Vision
This week, we have been thinking about our school vision and what it means to live it out in our everyday lives.
We started by learning about The Good Samaritan. The children thought carefully about the question, “Who is our neighbour?” We discussed how our neighbour isn’t just someone who lives next door or someone we know – it can be anyone who needs our help or kindness.
The children enjoyed thinking about different situations, such as helping someone who has fallen over, picking up books for someone we don’t know or noticing someone who is sitting alone. We talked about how we can choose to stop, notice and help others, just like the Good Samaritan did.
We then thought about ourselves and the gifts and strengths that we each have. The children shared things they are good at and considered how they could use these strengths to help somebody else. We talked about how we don’t all have to be good at the same things – our differences are what make us special!
We also took our learning outside and became ‘Good Neighbour Detectives’. We looked carefully at the natural world around us and thought about the things that need our care. The children spotted plants, trees, insects and other parts of our environment and discussed how we can be responsible for looking after them.
Throughout our learning, we have been thinking about how we can live out our school values of Love, Joy and Responsibility.
The children have had some lovely ideas about how they can make a difference, even through small acts of kindness.
Team 3 / 4:
Exploring Kindness through Vision Day
We have been studying the story of the Good Samaritan and thinking carefully about what kindness really means.
Together, we discussed how acts of kindness can be categorised as ‘easy’, ‘costly’ and ‘courageous’. We explored examples from the story, considering how the Samaritan’s actions went beyond simply being helpful and involved giving his time, resources and care to someone in need.
We then related these ideas to our own lives and thought about the different ways we can show kindness to others. We recognised that while some acts of kindness are easy to do, others can require sacrifice or courage.
In particular, we discussed courageous kindness – such as standing up for someone who is vulnerable or speaking up for something we believe is right. We acknowledged that this can sometimes feel scary or uncomfortable, but that choosing to do what is right can make a real difference to others.
Team 5 / 6:
As part of our Vision Day, Year 5 and 6 explored how we can support and help others through different situations they may face in everyday life. We based our discussions on the story of the Good Samaritan, thinking about how he showed kindness, compassion and support to someone in need. Working in small groups, the children discussed a range of scenarios and came up with practical advice and ideas to help someone through each one. They then created posters to share their advice and demonstrate how small acts of kindness, support and understanding can make a big difference.
