Our Week of Wonderful Discoveries!

This week, YR children had a wonderful time on a sunny summer walk, discovering tall trees, vibrant flowers, and scurrying bugs. They loved spotting buzzing bees and even some wasps before enjoying a well-earned rest! Meanwhile, Year 1 and 2 got hands-on with shapes, building towers with 3D blocks and creating beautiful patterns with 2D shapes, all while playing fun shape games. Team 3/4 became experts on migratory animals, researching fascinating creatures like fruit bats and humpback whales, then creating amazing information pages. Finally, Team 5/6 learned about staying safe online with a S.C.A.R.F. workshop, discussing how to be responsible digital citizens.

Team R:

This week, Team R children enjoyed a sunny summer walk filled with wonder and discovery. As they explored the outdoors, they noticed tall trees swaying in the breeze, vibrant flowers in bloom, and many tiny bugs scurrying about. There was lots of excitement spotting bees buzzing from flower to flower and even a few wasps! The children shared their thoughts and observations with curiosity and enthusiasm. After all that exploring, they settled under the shelter in the shade for a well-earned rest. It was a lovely way to learn about nature while enjoying the warm weather together.

Team 1 / 2:

Over the last few weeks, Team 1/2 have delved into the fascinating world of shapes through hands-on activities that brought geometry to life. Here’s a look at what they explored:

The children engaged in constructing towers using various blocks, such as cubes, cylinders, and cones. This allowed them to observe and discuss the properties of these 3D shapes, including faces, edges, and vertices. They explored how different shapes stack and balance, enhancing their spatial awareness and understanding of three-dimensional structures.

Using 2D shapes, the children designed radiating patterns by arranging shapes like triangles, squares, and hexagons around a central point. This helped them understand symmetry and repetition, as they identified the core unit of the pattern and extended it outward. They also learned to predict and describe the next shapes in the sequence, reinforcing their understanding of geometric relationships.

To reinforce their learning, the children participated in various shape-related games. Activities like shape bingo and shape hunts encouraged them to recognize and name different shapes, while also developing their ability to describe their properties.

Team 3 / 4:

This term, Team 3/4 explored We Travel So Far, a book all about migratory animals. We learned how to use fronted adverbials and possessive apostrophes before diving into our own research on animals like fruit bats, turtles, and humpback whales.

Using our facts and writing techniques, we created detailed information pages, complete with non-fiction features such as subheadings, diagrams, and fun facts.

Here are our fantastic finished pieces – we hope you enjoy them!

Team 5 / 6:

Last week, Team 5/6 took part in an engaging PSHE workshop led by S.C.A.R.F., focusing on safe and respectful online behaviour. The session explored how messages typed online can easily be misunderstood without the help of tone of voice or facial expressions. Pupils also discussed how to think critically about the information they come across online and the pressures that can come from influencer trends. It was a valuable opportunity to reflect on digital responsibility and making informed choices in the online world.

While some of our friends were away on the residential trip, our non-attenders had an absolutely fantastic week right here at school! It was packed with so many fun and engaging activities that kept everyone smiling.

They became super sleuths on an exciting scavenger hunt, cooled off with some splash-tastic water games, and unleashed their inner artists creating beautiful Mandala art using amazing natural materials they found outside. The highlight for many was the super tasty biscuit decorating competition – we saw some truly amazing (and delicious!) designs! And to top it all off, they even got to explore the world of technology with some cool computing using micro:bits.

It sounds like they had an incredible time, full of creativity, teamwork, and lots of laughs!
