Smiles, Skills and Success!

This week across the school, pupils enjoyed a wide range of exciting learning experiences. Year R developed teamwork and physical skills during fun PE activities, including sack races and outdoor circuits. Year 1/2 began their Design and Technology project by learning food preparation techniques such as spreading and grating safely while exploring healthy eating. In Year 3/4, children discovered abstract art inspired by Wassily Kandinsky and created impressive collagraph prints using shapes, colour and texture to express emotions. Meanwhile, Year 5/6 became scientists, investigating how levers work and discovering that longer levers require less force to lift heavy loads. It has been wonderful to see so much enthusiasm, creativity, curiosity, and excellent teamwork throughout the week.

Team R:

This week, Year R had a fantastic time in PE out on the field. The children showed great enthusiasm and teamwork while taking part in exciting sack races and fun circuit activities. Everyone enjoyed hopping to the finish line, cheering on their friends, and challenging themselves during the different exercises. The circuits included jumping, balancing, running, and throwing activities, helping the children build confidence and develop important physical skills. It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces and positive attitudes throughout the session. Well done, Year R, for your excellent effort, energy, and sportsmanship during a brilliant afternoon outdoors!

Team 1 / 2:

Year 1 and 2 have recently begun their new Design and Technology outcome: making a healthy, portable snack (wrap). This week, the children have been developing important food preparation skills, focusing on spreading and grating safely and effectively. Alongside this, they have been learning about nutritious foods and how they help our bodies stay healthy and energised. We are proud of their enthusiasm and can’t wait to see their finished wraps!

You might like to continue exploring these skills at home by preparing ingredients for meals together or even trying to make a different healthy, portable snack.

Team 3 / 4:

Unleashing Our Inner Kandinsky!

This week, our Year 3 and 4 artists have been diving into the world of abstract art. We learned that abstract art doesn’t have to look like a real object or follow a set pattern. Instead, it uses different shapes and colors to show “big ideas” and feelings. We looked at the famous artist Wassily Kandinsky and discovered how he used geometric shapes to show different emotions.

To make our own art, we became printmakers! We created something called a collagraph. First, we used cardboard, string, and lots of glue to make a bumpy design. We had to be very patient and wait for the glue to dry completely on the drying rack before we could see the magic happen.

The final prints look amazing! We rolled out our printing paint and carefully pressed our string designs into our sketchbooks. From swirling circles to bold lines, everyone used their new practical skills to share their feelings through art. Well done, Year 3 and 4!

Team 5 / 6:

In Science this week, Year 5/6 have been investigating how levers can help make light work of heavy loads. We were looking at the force needed to move a set weight with different length levers set from the same fulcrum or pivot point. We discovered that the longer the lever, the less force was needed to lift the same load. (No rulers were harmed in the testing of this hypothesis.)
