Our First Story in YR – The Three Little Pigs!
What a fantastic first week in YR! We’ve loved exploring our very first story – The Three Little Pigs! The children had so much fun listening to the Big Bad Wolf huff and puff and blow the houses down. In our workshop, we built stick houses, made pigs from pink playdough, and painted pigs by mixing red and white. We also enjoyed the sunshine in our outdoor area – playing in the water, sand, and dressing up in fancy dress!
Please remember to confirm or deny photography permission on Arbor so we can capture more magical moments!
Team 1 / 2:
This week in Team 1/2, the children have been learning all about the artist Monet. They have learnt about his life and how he was the founder of Impressionism, aiming to create a “snapshot” of time in his paintings through quick brushstrokes. The children have practised drawing horizon lines, then used techniques such as dashes and crosses before creating their own masterpieces. We can’t wait to see what their finished pieces will look like if these are only the practice sessions!
Team 3 / 4:
The children in Team 3/4 have been exploring different strategies for adding three numbers together. They have practised using part-whole models, number lines, and tens frames to help them see patterns and make connections. These strategies have supported them in solving problems with confidence and applying their learning in fun maths games.
Team 5 / 6:
Team 5/6 had a special visit from two Police Community Support Officers (PCSO), who came to teach the children about staying safe online. During the session, the PCSO discussed important topics such as what to do if they see or receive anything online that worries them, and the steps they should take to stay protected while using the internet.
The children were reminded of the potential dangers of being online and the importance of thinking carefully before posting anything.
The children then had the chance to ask questions about the role of a PCSO and discover more about how they support the community. The visit concluded with an exciting opportunity to explore a police van up close, making the experience both fun and memorable.
Team 5/6 left the session feeling informed, empowered, and inspired to make smart choices online.
