YR Enjoy PE Fun in the Sun! ☀️🏀
This week, our enthusiastic Year R children had a fantastic PE session outside on the school field with Coach! With big smiles and lots of energy, they practised throwing balls into hoops – a great way to build hand-eye coordination and teamwork. The sun was shining, the grass was green, and the children were full of excitement as they aimed, threw, and cheered each other on. Coach was super impressed with their focus and improvement. What a brilliant way to enjoy learning through play – we can’t wait for our next outdoor session!
Team 1 / 2:
This week, some of our Year 1 and 2 children had the exciting opportunity to take part in a local gymnastics event at Starlight, Romsey. The children were able to try out lots of different gymnastic activities, including balancing, jumping, rolling and floor work.
It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm as they challenged themselves with new skills. Every child gave their best effort, showing great determination and resilience throughout the afternoon. Staff at the event praised Rownhams pupils for their positive attitude, energy, and the way they supported one another.
We are so proud of all the children who took part – what a fantastic afternoon it was!
Team 3 / 4:
States of matter
This week, Year 3 became Science detectives to look at the three ways matter can exist: as a solid, a liquid, or a gas. The big secret is how the tiny, tiny pieces called particles are organised. To figure it out, we went outside to act like them!
We Became the Particles
To truly understand how these tiny pieces of matter behave, the whole class went outside to become human particles! We started by standing in a huge crowd, pressed tightly together with no room to walk. We could only wiggle and shake in our spot. This showed us why solids (like a chair or a brick) keep their fixed shape—the particles are locked in place!
Next, we spread out a little, staying close together but now able to slide past our friends. We flowed slowly across the playground. This showed us why liquids (like juice or water) can change their shape to fit a cup or bottle—their particles can slide around!
Finally, we shouted “Gas!” and ran quickly across the playground, staying far apart from each other. This showed us why gases (like the air we breathe) will spread out to fill any space—their particles have lots of energy and are zooming everywhere!
This activity helped every child understand the difference in how particles act!
Team 5 / 6:
So far this term in Writing, Year 5/6 have been taking inspiration from Pandora, the richly imagined world from Avatar, to create their own unique planets.
Building on what they have learned about Pandora, pupils designed their own worlds on a mind map, thinking carefully about its location in the galaxy, biomes, wildlife, unusual features and properties. From floating mountains to glowing forests, their planets are filled with creativity and detail.
Each child has written a script to describe and ‘present’ their planet, using descriptive language to bring it to life for their audience. They made great use of a thesaurus to build rich vocabulary, and worked hard on editing and redrafting to polish their writing.
The final pieces show real imagination, supported by some stunning illustrations of their planets, which we’re excited to share.
Well done, Year 5/6 – your writing has been out of this world!
Orienteering Festival
Orienteering Fun!
Our students had an amazing time at the Orienteering Festival, exploring the course and solving challenges with energy and enthusiasm. Everyone showed great teamwork and determination. We are thrilled that our school earned certificates for Passion and Respect – a fantastic reward for the brilliant attitudes our pupils showed throughout the day. Well done, adventurers!
