Our Reception children had an amazing time during their special dance session with JM Dance! The energy in the hall was electric as the children moved, twirled, and grooved to the music, learning fun routines and expressing themselves through dance. It was wonderful to see every child joining in with such enthusiasm and confidence. The session was not only active and creative, but also a fantastic boost for coordination and listening skills. Best of all—our JM Dance coach had just as much fun as the children! We can’t wait to dance again soon!
Team 1 / 2:
Last week, our Year 1/2 children had a fantastic adventure at Hillier’s Arboretum, where they spent the day immersed in nature and learning all about plants and the natural world.
The day was packed with exciting hands-on activities. The children had the opportunity to go pond dipping, where they discovered all sorts of fascinating water creatures hiding beneath the surface. They also tried grass sweeping to catch tiny insects living in the long grass, using special nets to investigate what they could find.
Another highlight was building mini habitats using natural materials. The children worked in teams to create shelters and homes for small animals, thinking carefully about what creatures need to stay safe and warm.
Finally, they explored the Arboretum’s impressive collection of trees, learning how to identify different types and understanding why trees are so important for our planet.
The trip was not only fun but also a wonderful way to support the children’s learning in science and geography. They returned full of enthusiasm, eager to share their discoveries and inspired to care for the environment around them.
A big thank you to the staff at Hillier’s and all the helpers who made the day so special! 🌳🐞🪵
Team 3 / 4:
Year 3/4 have been using their knowledge of electrical circuits, gained during science sessions, to help with their Design Technology project. Each child made a celebration card that lit up.
Once they had created their design—which included a space for a multicoloured LED lamp—they planned out the circuit they would need on the other side of the card. They used folded aluminium foil in place of wires, securing them with tape. They also included a space for the LED to poke through in their circuit.
The children used two paper fasteners and a paperclip to make a switch—another concept from their science lessons. They also designed a space for a flat cylindrical battery to fit.
Ensuring the circuit was complete and that the foil was folded tightly enough were some of the challenges everyone faced. Despite these issues, it was great to see their science knowledge being applied so effectively!
Team 5 / 6:
This week year 5/6 have been taking a long hard look … at reflection. Working out how to reflect shapes across both axis of a four quadrant grid. Some even managed diagonal reflection across an x=y mirror line. We have also been finding lines of symmetry within shapes. It really was really nice to spend part of the week just reflecting.
WW2 Choir at Rownhams Manor Care Home
On Tuesday the choir went to Rownhams Manor Care Home to sing songs from WW2 to the elderly.
We sang, “You Are My Sunshine”, “We’ll Meet Again”, “Bless ‘Em All” and lots more. We had a fantastic time singing and the residents enjoyed singing along and saying hello to us afterwards. We even made some of them cry because it brought back so many memories.
