Victory in Europe!

This week on the blog, Year R enjoyed sunny outdoor play in fancy dress, becoming various characters and filling the playground with imaginative fun. Year 1/2 became geographers, exploring the school grounds to create detailed maps with keys, boosting their spatial awareness. In Year 3/4 the students learned about healthy eating by planning a nutritious party for Kiki the Kangaroo's friend, Derek the Penguin, using creative methods to share their ideas. Year 5 pupils enjoyed optical illusion art and a maths escape-the-forest challenge, boosting creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork. Plus our whole school VE Picnic Celebration!

Team R:

This week in the outside area, YR had an amazing time dressing up in fancy dress! The sunshine made it even more special as the children became firefighters, doctors, nurses, princesses, builders, policemen, and even lollypop people. With big smiles and boundless imagination, they worked together, saving lives, building towers, and dancing in royal style. The playground turned into a busy town full of fun and laughter. It was wonderful to see them role-playing and enjoying the fresh air. Their creativity knows no bounds, we can’t wait to see what they become next!

Team 1 / 2:

Ahead of their local walk that is taking place next week, Year 1/2 transformed into keen geographers as they took on the exciting challenge of creating a map of our school grounds!

The task began with a guided walk around the school, where children observed key features such as the playground, field, trees, climbing frames, and main entrance/car park. The children were fantastic at comparing whether these features were human or physical.

Back in the classroom, they used their observations to create detailed maps, carefully deciding on symbols to represent different areas. A big part of the learning was creating a key for their maps and using creative symbols to represent the features.

This activity helped build spatial awareness, introduced early geography skills, and gave our young learners a deeper appreciation for the space they use every day.

Team 3 / 4:

In PSHE, we have been learning all about Healthy Eating! We received an exciting email from Kiki the Kangaroo, who asked for our help planning a party for his friend Derek the Penguin. Last year, Derek ate too much unhealthy food at his party and ended up feeling very sick—so this year, Kiki wants to make sure the food is still fun, but much healthier. We looked at the ‘Eatwell Plate’ to learn how different types of food help our bodies grow strong and stay healthy. Then, we worked together to design a delicious and nutritious menu for a buffet-style party. Some of us made short films, drew colourful pictures, or wrote emails back to Kiki to share our ideas!

Team 5 / 6:

This week, our Year 5 children have been putting their creativity and problem-solving skills to the test with two exciting activities that had everyone thinking, laughing, and learning.

First, the children explored the fascinating world of optical illusion art. This unique art form plays tricks on the eyes, making still images appear to move or shapes look distorted. The class loved creating their own illusions – have a look at some of our creations! Not only did this project inspire artistic flair, but it also sparked conversations about perception and how our brains interpret what we see.

Next, the children took on the challenge of a maths-based “escape the forest” adventure in our wonderful school grounds. Using their knowledge of number patterns, geometry, and logical thinking, the children worked in teams to crack codes, solve puzzles, and uncover clues that led them out of the mysterious forest setting. It was a brilliant way to apply maths in a real-world context, and the teamwork on display was just as impressive as the maths skills!
