Team R:
This week, Year R have been exploring portraits in Art, taking inspiration from the colourful work of Paul Klee. We looked closely at how he used bold shapes, strong lines and vibrant colours to create unique faces.
The children began by drawing their self-portraits using simple shapes to carefully position their eyes, nose and mouth. They then used pastels to add bright colours, experimenting with blending and shading to make their artwork stand out.
It was wonderful to see each child’s personality shine through in their creations. YR showed fantastic creativity and confidence, and their finished portraits are full of colour and character!
Team 1 / 2:
Year 1 and 2 RE learning journey “Salvation” Spring term 2
Year 1 and 2 have been learning all about the events of Holy week and Christian celebrations of Easter as part of their R.E learning.
They have learned about the Easter Story and how Jesus came to be our Salvation and save us.
The children were excited to learn about celebrations in Church and the Pascall Candle as well as the things Christians in our community try to do at Easter time to help others. There was lots of excitement talking about Easter symbols and forthcoming celebrations at Easter time and the giving and receiving of Easter eggs! One person said “ Jesus was Good and Chocolate is good!” something which they all agreed upon.
The children have also been talking about the school motto of “ Me, My Community and Our World” and discussing how they might learn from the message given by Jesus at Easter time and what that might mean for them.
It has been wonderful to see them take such joy in their learning and begin to think about how their small actions may make a difference to their world.
Team 3 / 4:
Eggciting Shell Structures – Easter Egg Box Project
In our recent Design & Technology lessons, we explored shell structures by designing and making a box to hold an Easter egg. This project helped us understand how flat materials can be transformed into strong 3D shapes using clever techniques.
We focused on using flanges, tabs, slots, and folds to construct our boxes. First, we designed a net (a flat pattern) that could be folded into shape. Flanges were added to give strength and provide surfaces for joining. Tabs and slots allowed us to connect different parts securely without needing glue in some cases, while folds helped create clean edges and structure.
Once our basic structures were assembled, we tested them to make sure they were strong enough to protect an Easter egg. We then moved on to the creative stage—decorating our boxes. Students used bright colours, patterns, and Easter-themed designs such as chicks, flowers, and eggs to make their boxes unique and eye-catching.

This project was a great way to combine practical skills with creativity. We learned how careful planning and accurate construction are essential in design, and how small details like neat folds and well-placed tabs can make a big difference.
Overall, it was an exciting and hands-on experience that helped us understand how everyday packaging is designed and made!
Team 5 / 6:
During our recent trip to Romsey, year 5/6 represented the school impeccably. The tasks were to carry out a survey of what reasons people had to visit the town, as well as how far they had travelled to do so. We looked at land use and building use to see how much it had changed over the years. We took a wonderful sunny walk around the heritage trail and spotted buildings that were of particular interest. We also did a tally of building use to create some graphs when we were back in school. The children also enjoyed a little hunt around Romsey Abbey to complete a questionnaire. The weather held out beautifully and the children were great. Well done 5/6!
Easter Service in School
This year, our Easter service looked a little different. Unfortunately, due to building work at the church, we were unable to hold the service there. Instead, we came together in school—but this did not take away from the meaning or specialness of the occasion.
The service was a wonderful time of reflection and celebration. We shared readings, songs, and drama, which helped us remember the true meaning of Easter. Our readers spoke clearly and expressively, helping to bring the message to life for everyone. The Christian Union performed a thoughtful and engaging drama, which was a highlight of the service and really helped us reflect on the Easter story.
Everyone involved showed great respect and enthusiasm, making the service feel just as special as it would have been in church.
A special thank you goes to Ewan and Graeme for sharing in and supporting this important service. Their contribution helped make the event meaningful for everyone.
Although the location was different, the spirit of the service remained the same—a thoughtful and memorable way to mark Easter together as a school community.
We're All Mad Here!
On Saturday 21 March, our Musical Theatre Group performed “We’re All Mad Here” at The
Lantern Theatre to around 360 people over two shows. This year marks the 10th anniversary of
our first production in 2016 and we look forward to more to come.
Kayley (dancer) and Emilie (Queen of Hearts) have spoken about how it felt to perform. “It was
first performances for some of us; there were dancers, flowers, cards and many other
characters. I felt really excited but we also felt a bit nervous when we were on stage. It was my
first role having a solo because I was the Queen of Hearts. There were 180 people for each
performance. When we are altogether it feels like family, this was the best act yet! “
Lily (Cheshire Cat) reflected on why it’s fun to be part of Musical Theatre: “Musical Theatre is an
unforgettable experience that will build up your courage to perform. It’s perfect when it comes to
making new friends and finding a new hobby. You will flourish in different worlds and different
perspectives. You get to perform at the Lantern Theatre and showcase your talents.”
We’re All Mad Here was full of colour, music and a little madness, with amazing acting, dancing
and singing from all involved – nearly 60 children, who embraced their roles and gave their very
best.
We are so very proud of every one of them. They showed amazing resilience, courage and
support for their fellow cast members and truly embodied our school values of love, joy &
responsibility.
We raised money for Romsey Young Carers who do fantastic work in the area and as soon as
we have a total figure, we will let you know!

production day itself.
