Winter Warmers

This week on the blog: model monsters, winter warmers, Hindu culture, and map makers...

Over the past week, Team 1/2 have been welcoming parents and carers into the school for the afternoon to take part in their 'Reading Winter Warmer' events. Across the classes, the children shared their favourite stories with each other, and enjoyed a hot chocolate and a biscuit or two! It was lovely to see lots of you attend - you can find photos from the events below. Also in the blog, Team R have also been enjoying stories, creating models of one of their favourite characters 'Nibbles'. Meanwhile in KS2, Team 3/4 had a special visit from Mrs Mukherjee to learn more about Hindu culture, whilst Team 5/6 have been making their own maps as part of their learning in Geography. Keep reading to find out more about what the children have been up to this week!

Team R: Model Monsters

This week in Year R, the children have been engaging with the story of ‘Nibbles the Book Monster’ by Emma Yarlett. The story follows a little monster called Nibbles, whose habit of nibbling pages from books causes fairy-tale stories to turn to chaos! The children have really enjoyed reading this story, and as a result they were inspired to create their own models of Nibbles using play dough!

Team 1 / 2: Reading Winter Warmers

Team 1/2 have enjoyed their ‘Reading Winter Warmer’ events this week. Across the afternoons, parents and carers had the opportunity to share a book with their child, whilst enjoying a warm cup of hot chocolate and a few biscuits! It was great to see a wide range of books being enjoyed across the afternoons, and thank you to everybody who was able to attend, it was lovely to see lots of you there.

Team 3 / 4: Learning about Hindu Culture

This week, Team 3/4 had an exciting visit from Mrs Mukherjee which provided the children with a deeper understanding of Hindu culture and traditions. She began by answering the children’s questions about Hinduism, offering insights in its beliefs, practices, and significance in daily life. To make the learning experience more interactive, Mrs Mukherjee introduced the children to traditional Hindu attire. She brought with her a selection of beautiful saris and fabrics, allowing the children to try them on and observe their intricate designs and vibrant colours. This allowed the children to experience first-hand the beauty and significance of cultural practices, promoting respect and appreciation for different traditions. Mrs Mukherjee’s visit was a memorable occasion that enriched the children’s knowledge, and provided them with a meaningful connection to Hindu culture.

Team 5 / 6: Making Maps

In Team 5/6, the children have been exploring the fascinating world of biomes and, this week, have focused on the temperate deciduous forest as one of the key ecosystems. We used the National Geographic Map Maker tool to look at the UK as a country within this biome. After loading up the map and adding different layers to it, we were able to see how the land usage differs between Rownhams and Minstead in the New Forest.
