Team R:
Year R have been having lots of fun with The Three Little Pigs!
This week, the children have been enjoying the much-loved story of The Three Little Pigs. They have been listening carefully to the story, talking about the characters and joining in with the repeated phrases as they retell the tale.
We have also been exploring the different houses the pigs built and thinking about which materials might make the strongest house. There has been lots of imaginative play, storytelling and discussion as the children have brought the story to life in their own ways.
It has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm, creativity and growing confidence as storytellers!
Team 1 / 2:
Our Pop Art Portraits
This week in Art, Team 1/2 have been learning all about the famous artist Andy Warhol and exploring the colourful world of Pop Art.
We discovered that Andy Warhol was fascinated by everyday objects and people, and he often repeated images and used bold, bright colours to make them stand out. We looked closely at some of his artwork and talked about what we noticed – the colours, patterns, repetition and the way he made ordinary things look really interesting!
We then became artists ourselves! The children used black and white photographs of themselves as inspiration for their own portraits. They carefully looked at the shapes and features in their photographs before using oil pastels to add colour, experimenting with different shades, lines and patterns.
There was lots of excitement as the children made decisions about which colours to use and discovered how oil pastels could be blended and layered to create different effects. We encouraged them to be brave with their choices and not worry about making their portraits look exactly like a photograph – just as Warhol encouraged people to look at familiar subjects in a new way.
It was wonderful to see the children developing their confidence as artists, making their own creative choices and celebrating what makes each of us unique. Their finished portraits are certainly full of colour, character and personality!
Team 3 / 4:
Team 3/4 have kicked off their computing unit with a fantastic session focused on digital citizenship and coding.
We started by learning how to keep SAFE online before diving into our big idea for the day: Motion. To understand how sprites turn and change direction, the children stood up to physically practice quarter (90°), half (180°), and full (360°) turns clockwise and anticlockwise.
Putting their math and code into action, everyone logged onto their laptops and tablets for the ‘Hour of Code’ on Code.org, successfully writing instructions to program Anna and Elsa from Frozen across the ice! Great problem-solving, Team 3/4!
Team 5 / 6:
Small Changes, Less Food Waste!
Our Year 5/6 children have been exploring the impact of food waste, learning that throwing away food also wastes the water, energy and effort used to produce it.
They considered practical ways to help, including planning meals, using leftovers, checking date labels and serving smaller portions. The children then wrote persuasive messages encouraging families to make simple changes at home.
This learning linked to our values of Love and Responsibility, as we reflected on caring for God’s world.
Could your family try one small change this week? Every action supports our school promise: “Together, we will make a difference. Me. My Community. Our World.”
