Year 1/2 - Partitioning Pros
This week year 1 and 2 have been using practical resources to help them partition in maths. They have been taking two digit numbers and partitioning this number in four different ways using dienes! We saw children applying excellent reasoning skills to support their knowledge of tens and ones.
Year 3/4 - Away on Residential
This week the first of the three Year 3/4 classes went on their two night, three day residential adventure to Minstead Study Centre. After a short coach journey, Rowan class were greeted by the friendly staff at Minstead who were due to lead lots of the activities.
Our first big adventure was making beds and sorting essentials. Then it was time to go on a beautiful hike through the heart of the New Forest. Lots of natural habitats, flora & fauna, tiny bugs; wild ponies (a mare with her tiny foal) and even a herd of deer were spotted close by throughout the walk.
Other exciting activities such as river and pond dipping; fire making; humane mammal trap setting; journal recording; campfire singing & storytelling; biodiversity & ecology lessons and orienteering were squeezed into just a few short days. Not to mention eating lots of delicious, freshly prepared food; making our own lunches; picking fresh vegetables to eat for tea and of course spending lots of time playing and having fun with friends.
Thanks to all the Minstead staff for making the trip so special and for all the hard work of every member of the Rownhams team who literally worked day and night to make sure every child got as much as possible from this wonderful experience. Mr Warner
Year 5/6 - An Afternoon in the School Grounds
Last Friday, Willow had their gardening afternoon. They took part in activities such as litter picking, watering new shrubs and a wildlife count. It was very warm so they enjoyed running through the hose mist afterwards! A huge thank you to Ms Terzer for organising the afternoon and for giving them such lovely opportunities in our grounds.
