Fruitful Learning!

This week has been full of exciting learning across the school. In Year R, children enjoyed making colourful fruit kebabs inspired by Handa’s Surprise, practising safe cutting skills while exploring healthy eating. Year 1/2 continued their work on Henri Rousseau by creating unique tiger collages that brought their jungle scenes to life. Team 3/4 took part in an energetic PE session, developing agility, teamwork and communication through reaction games and dodgeball. Meanwhile, Year 5/6 explored Shakespeare’s Macbeth through drama activities, acting out key scenes to deepen their understanding of characters and emotions. These performances supported their narrative writing, helping them develop dialogue, atmosphere and characterisation. It has been wonderful to see such creativity, enthusiasm and confidence across all year groups this week.

Team R:

This week, YR had lots of fun making fruit kebabs inspired by the story Handa’s Surprise. We talked about the different fruits in the story and created our own colourful snack using watermelon, apple, blueberries, strawberries and bananas. YR worked carefully to chop the fruit themselves, showing great concentration and independence while practising safe cutting skills. They enjoyed choosing which fruits to put on their kebab sticks and making exciting patterns. YR was proud of their finished fruit kebabs and loved tasting the different flavours. What a fantastic way to explore healthy eating and storytelling together!

Team 1 / 2:

This week in Year 1/2, we have continued exploring the artwork of Henri Rousseau. The children have been developing their jungle collages by creating striking tigers using orange and black card.

I love how each tiger looks completely unique, showing the children’s creativity and individuality. I’m sure you will agree that the addition of the tigers has really brought their jungle scenes to life and made their final pieces look truly stunning!

Team 3 / 4:

It was a high-energy PE session for Team 3/4 this week, packed with competition, teamwork, and skill-building!

They kicked off with a fast-paced reaction game. The teacher called out a colour, and students raced to collect as many of those cones as possible. It was a brilliant, chaotic way to get moving and warm up.

Next, the class split into two teams across the MUGA for an intense game of Dodgeball. The energy was electric as everyone put their skills to the test.

Students showed great agility dodging the balls and impressive precision with their throwing, developing their motor skills and accuracy with every round. While the competitive spirit was high, the fantastic communication and teamwork between players was the real highlight.

Team 5 / 6:

Year 5/6 Bring Macbeth to Life!

This half term, Year 5/6 have been exploring the Shakespeare classic Macbeth. The children have thoroughly enjoyed diving into the dramatic world of witches, prophecies and ambitious characters!

To help develop their understanding of the text and strengthen their writing, the children have been acting out key scenes and conversations between characters. Through drama activities, they explored how characters may have been feeling and how tension can be created through dialogue and action.

The class particularly enjoyed performing conversations between Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, using expression and tone to bring the characters to life. These activities helped the children to think carefully about how speech can reveal emotions and move a story forward.

Following the drama sessions, the children used their ideas to support their narrative writing. They focused on using speech punctuation correctly, including dialogue to develop characterisation, and adding descriptive detail to create atmosphere and suspense.

It has been wonderful to see the children grow in confidence both as performers and writers. We are very proud of their enthusiasm, creativity and thoughtful discussions throughout our work on Macbeth.
