Team R: The Gruffalo's Child
This week in Year R, the children have been exploring the story of The Gruffalo’s Child by Julia Donaldson. In the story, the Gruffalo’s Child bravely tiptoes out into the snow in search of the Big Bad Mouse, meeting lots of other animals along the way. In the classroom, we had lots of activities to explore including making our own timelines of the story, drawing our own illustrations, and even creating our own shadows using torches.
Team 1 / 2: A Winter Walk
This week in Science, Team 1/2 have been learning all about trees. They took advantage of the crisp, icy weather to go on a winter walk and observe the trees in our school grounds. The children observed what happens to trees in winter, and named different varieties. The children then created their own 3D nature collages of trees, labelling the different parts and what they do.
Team 3 / 4: Fixing Electrical Circuits
In Science, Team 3/4 have been furthering their knowledge of electrical circuits. The children reminded themselves of the symbols that are used when drawing circuits before using some new equipment to build their own.. Phizzi electronics kits are reliable devices that allow children to build circuits using wires, batteries, bulbs and switches. The children then used their Phizzi circuit to see if some circuits that were drawn for them would work or not. They had to then ‘repair’ the circuit by drawing it accurately and explaining what they did to make the circuit complete.
Team 5 / 6: What is a 'saviour'?
The children in Team 5/6 completed their R.E. learning on the concept of ‘Incarnation’. During their learning journey, they had considered what the word saviour means to us and what difference a saviour can make to us. The children then explored what the word ‘saviour’ means to a Jew and to a Christian and what the Bible tells us about the promised Messiah. Finally, they thought about whether they believed that Jesus was the Messiah and they explained their reasons for their viewpoints.
