Interactive Learning

This week in the blog, Team R’s sand sieving and creative shelters spark a love for reading. Team 1/2 time-travel to the Great Fire of London, hands-on projects vividly portraying history. Team 3/4 delves into Wassily Kandinsky's abstract art, crafting expressive collographs. Meanwhile, Team 5/6 investigates the circulatory system, conducting experiments for a deeper understanding. Across all year groups, you’ll find engaging activities and projects that bring learning to life, fostering curiosity and creativity.

Year R: Sieves, scales and shelters

This week we have been doing lots of independent learning. Some of us have been really interested in how we can sieve the sand and find bigger ‘rocks’. The sand falls through, leaving the rocks behind. We have enjoyed adapting how we use the large blocks outside. Some of us have been creating shelters with special passwords. Some of us have been enjoying being creative in the sand or mud kitchen. We have been reading ‘Nibbles the Book Monster’ and have really enjoyed finding him in other books as well. This has encouraged us to pick up a book and give it a read.  In Maths, we have been comparing the weights of objects using the balance scales. It has also been fun to have the Lego out. There are some really great pieces and it really helps us to get our fingers strong.

Year 1 / 2: Exploring the Great Fire of London

In an immersive journey through time, Year 1/2 delved into the captivating story of the Great Fire of London. They learned about the spark that started it all – a small bakery on Pudding Lane. Hands-on activities brought history to life as the children built miniature cityscapes showing life before and after the disastrous event that changed London forever. They explored how in the aftermath, London underwent transformative changes and introduced new building regulations. We have been using drawings and imaginative narratives to express our understanding of this historical event.

Year 3 / 4: Wassily Kandinsky inspired abstract Art

Year 3 / 4 have been learning about Abstract Art in their art lessons this term. They have learned about the life and works of Wassily Kandinsky and explored replicating some of his techniques. Kandinsky used geometric shapes to convey feelings and emotions, particularly squares, triangles and circles. This week, the children have made collographs using cardboard and string which they have then used to create Kandinsky inspired prints.

Year 5 / 6: Investigating the Circulatory System

Year 5 / 6 have been learning about circulation in the human body. They started by exploring how the respiratory system – which moves oxygen into the body and carbon dioxide out – is connected with the circulatory system – which is the body’s delivery system, transporting oxygen and carbon dioxide in the blood. Then, they collected data for an experiment to compare lung capacity and recorded the results on a bar graph.
