Our Colourful World!

This week, Year R students have significantly improved their handwriting, showing great progress in letter formation and pencil control. Year 1/2 celebrated World Ocean Day, learning about the five oceans, diverse marine life, and the importance of ocean conservation. They discussed ways to combat pollution and protect our planet. Rowan Class (Year 3/4) created striking abstract cubism and art deco artwork using pastels and bold lines. Year 5/6 began exploring "The Colours of History," researching facts about colours and their historical significance to design informative posters.

Team R:

Our Year R children have been working incredibly hard all summer term to improve their handwriting — and it’s really paying off! Every day, their letter formation gets neater and more confident. From careful curves to perfect pencil control, we are so proud of their determination and progress. Just look how amazing they are! Keep it up, super writers!

Team 1 / 2:

Year 1/2 children had a splash-tastic time celebrating World Ocean Day! It was a wonderful opportunity for our young learners to dive deep into the wonders of our blue planet and discover why our oceans are so important.

Throughout the day, the children explored the five main oceans of the world — the Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Southern, and Arctic. They were fascinated to learn how vast and unique each ocean is, and how they are home to an incredible variety of marine life.

From playful dolphins and graceful sea turtles to the mysterious creatures of the deep sea, the children learned about the animals that live in each ocean and how they adapt to their environments. There were lots of “wow” moments as they shared facts, drew their favourite sea creatures, and watched short videos about life under the waves.

One of the most important parts of the day was learning how we can all help protect our oceans. The children discussed the impact of littering, plastic pollution, and climate change. Together, we talked about small but powerful actions we can take — like recycling, using less plastic, and keeping our beaches clean.

We were so proud of how thoughtful and passionate the children were about looking after the oceans. They showed a real sense of responsibility and care for our planet — true young eco-heroes in the making!

Thank you for supporting our celebration of World Ocean Day. We encourage you to ask your children what they learned and talk with them at home about how we can all help protect our oceans every day.

🌎💙 Let’s keep the conversation going — for the oceans, for the planet, and for their future.

Team 3 / 4:

This week, while many children were at Minstead, Rowan Class got creative with some amazing artwork! We explored two cool styles: abstract cubism and art deco.

First, we looked at lots of examples to get inspired. Then, we chose an image to draw and used straight lines to make it look bold and angular, with lots of interesting shapes. After that, we brought our artwork to life with bright, colourful pastels!

Everyone worked really hard, and the results are fantastic!

Team 5 / 6:

This week, Year 5/6 have been looking at ‘The Colours of History: How colours shaped the World’, and began by looking at some facts about colours, their history and how they are used. They designed a fact poster using the information they found out.

Other School News:

This week, the Young Governors gathered to share what they love most about our wonderful school and also reflected on the qualities they would like to see in a new teacher joining our team. They were full of great ideas and really enjoyed having the chance to share their thoughts.

It has been wonderful to see the children enjoying the new line markings during break and lunchtimes. They are especially fond of the agility trail, where they can practise their running, jumping, and hopping skills. The new markings have truly helped to brighten and refresh the playground.
