Team R: Heart Start
This week, Team R were lucky to have a visit from Meon Valley Heart Start, who delivered sessions all about important life-saving techniques. The children learned how to approach a medical emergency safely, how to call for an ambulance and how to put someone into the recovery position. Thank you to the Heart Start team or coming in and running these great, informative sessions!Â
Team 1 / 2: Robot Traps
This week, Team 1/2 embarked on an exciting writing adventure, and it all started with a video about a mischievous robot causing chaos! The children were captivated as they watched the mechanical troublemaker taunt a cat and create all sorts of mess. This hilarious and slightly pesky robot became the perfect inspiration for a unique and engaging writing project.Â
Armed with pencils, paper, and boundless creativity, the children set about sketching their ingenious contraptions. From elaborate net systems to intricate cages, each trap was designed with careful thought and detail. The process encouraged problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork as they shared ideas and refined their plans.
Once their traps were designed, the next challenge will be to write clear instructions to explain how to catch the pesky robot.
So, if your child comes home excitedly telling you about their ingenious robot-catching trap, be sure to ask them how it works! You might even want to challenge them to build a real-life version—just in case any rogue robots decide to pay a visit.
Team 3 / 4: Blue-Bots and Bluetooth
In their Computing lessons, Team 3/4 have been using Bluetooth technology to create remote-controlled cars. The SAM Labs blocks utilise Bluetooth to connect to LearnPad tablets, which use an internal gyroscope to control the hand-built cars. Other children used various devices, such as Blue-Bots and Tuff-Bots, as remote-controlled devices that rely on Bluetooth cards to be operated remotely. The children needed to program the cars to navigate a specified course. A lot of debugging was required to ensure the cars moved exactly where they were supposed to!
Team 5 / 6: Speed and Agility
In Team 5/6, the children have been focusing on developing their dynamic balance and agility through a variety of activities. Our lessons have been focusing on helping to improve jumping and landing techniques, teaching the children how to land safely with control and balance, and reducing the risk of injury. They are also working on their one-leg balance skills, which are essential for stability and coordination. Through fun and challenging exercises and games, children are learning how to shift their weigh, adjust their body position, and respond quickly to changes in direction. Here they have been enjoying a game of ‘Jumpball’, in which they have to score points by knocking target balls off cones whilst the opposing team try to intercept!
