Why is good Friday so good?

This week in our blog you can read about Year 3/4's visit from Christ Church Winchester Schools Team. The team came to lead us in a day all about our RE theme for this term, ‘Salvation’, exploring the question of ‘Why do Christians call Good Friday good?’ Year 5/6 have been using pulleys to transport tomatoes, Year 1/2 have been out and about in the local area and Year R have been dressing-up.

Year R - Dressing Up!

Year R have been enjoying dressing up and creating stories together this week. They have made and found props and thought carefully about what will happen in their play. We loved watching their performances and were so impressed to hear them using all of the new vocabulary we have been learning this year.

Year 1/2 - Exploring the Local Area

This week Year 1/2 went on a geography walk around our local area. We looked at human and physical features around Rownhams village. We visited Nutshalling pond, St Boniface park and Rownhams estate. The children had brilliant fun spending their morning outside and creating their own maps of Rownhams afterwards.

Year 3/4 - Salvation

Just before the Easter holidays, Year 3/4 were visited by the Christ Church Winchester Schools Team. The team came to lead us in a day all about our RE theme for this term, ‘Salvation’, exploring the question of ‘Why do Christians call Good Friday good?’ We looked at the story of Holy Week and all of the events that took place in between Palm Sunday, when Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, and Easter Sunday, when Jesus rose from the dead. In small groups, we created freeze frames for different events and we thought about how the people might be feeling in those situations.

We also enjoyed thinking more deeply about Palm Sunday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday and we explored the importance of each of these days for Christians as they celebrate Easter. Another highlight was learning how to find passages in the Bible! We looked at the contents page to find the book, then used the big numbers to find the chapter and the small numbers to find the verse.

We had a brilliant day – thank you so much to Megan, Jack and Dave for coming to spend the day with us!

Year 5/6 - Transporting Tomatoes!

In D&T, the children investigated how they might use pulleys to transport tomatoes without squashing them. They designed, made and evaluated their first attempt in preparation for their final product.
