About Us

When you walk around our school it is likely that you will notice our butterfly motifs – they appear in our displays and various other places in school. The metaphor of children being like butterflies was inspired by this anonymous poem:

When you enter our school you will feel straight away that it is a welcoming place.  It is a happy place where everyone is recognised as unique and special.  All are cared for and nurtured.  Staff go the extra mile to support the children, their families and one another.

Our Team

We believe strongly in the idea of Teamship. When you join our school you become part of the team – Team Rownhams. We have a strong and dedicated team of staff, governors, parents – and pupils – who work together to make our school a happy, safe place where children are ready to learn and thrive. We all demonstrate our core values of love, joy and responsibility and if you visit you will immediately get the sense that this school is great place to work and learn.

Our Governors

Our governors range from those who are relatively new to governing to those with over ten years experience.  They all have different skills, experiences and interests that they bring to this role. However, they all share a commitment and interest in our children’s future and improving educational outcomes.

Our PTA

We have creative and active PTA who raise valuable funds for our school. Our most recent purchase was our new Galaxy play-frame.

Ofsted

"The school’s values of ‘love, joy and responsibility’ run through everything."
Ofsted

Our last Ofsted inspection was in May 2023 and we were rated as a ‘Good’ provider with the areas of Early Years Foundation Stage and Personal Development rated as ‘Outstanding’. You can read the report below:

Safeguarding

At Rownhams St John’s, we recognise our moral and statutory responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of all children.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

Our vision for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) is the same as for all of children – that they achieve well and go onto lead happy and fulfilled lives.

Child and Family Support

We know how difficult it can be to be a parent or carer, which is why we offer child and family support when you need it.
